Join the RWE Renewables team as an Associate Electrical Project Engineer und support onshore wind and PV projects in Germany.
The Project Engineering Germany department provides technical support and expertise throughout the development, construction, and operational phases of our wind farms, across the disciplines of Resource Assessment, Site Suitability, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
Your Tasks
As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will support projects from development through construction to handover to operations, with the following responsibilities:
- Project-oriented work and support in the development of a robust and optimised electrical design for onshore wind and PV projects with connection to medium-, high-, or extra-high-voltage grids
- Providing support in all aspects related to power transmission, distribution, and feed-in to the public grid
- Performing load flow and short-circuit calculations using PowerFactory
- Preparing grid connection applications to grid operators for our renewable generation plants
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders such as I&C, Development, Construction, and Operations
- Supporting the preparation of tender documents for eBoP components such as substations, grid connection points, and cable civil works
- Accompanying projects during the construction phase with on-site visits up to commissioning
- Supporting the certification process in accordance with FGW-TR8 and VDE-AR-N 4110/4120/4130, from ordering the plant certificate to preparing the declaration of conformity
Your Profile
- Successfully completed technical training or equivalent professional experience in electrical power systems or a comparable field
- Ideally, initial professional experience in designing medium- and/or high-voltage systems, and in grid connection design for renewable energy generation plants connected to the public grid
- Knowledge of relevant grid simulation software such as PowerFactory (load flow, short-circuit, protection, RMS, and EMT simulations) is a plus; additional software knowledge like PSS/E or PSCAD is also beneficial
- Basic understanding of the German transmission and distribution network
- Basic knowledge of relevant standards, e.g. VDE-AR-N 4101/4120/4130 and the technical guidelines of FGW
- Good interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with people at various organisational levels
- Project management skills, a collaborative mindset, and an interest in interdisciplinary tasks, along with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams, regions, and functions
- Fluent German skills (business-level) and good English skills
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within Germany, typically for day trips
