About the Role
Solution Architect – Developer Experience
Role purpose
The Solution Architect will define and govern the end-to-end solution architecture for the Developer Experience programme, translating business, developer and security requirements into secure, scalable and supportable designs for EUC-managed Windows and macOS endpoints. The role will bridge architecture, engineering, security, application management and operational teams, ensuring that project capabilities align with enterprise standards and can transition successfully into BAU ownership.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the high-level and detailed solution architecture for the target-state developer endpoint experience across Windows 11 and macOS.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into architecture decisions, patterns, interface designs, security controls and implementation roadmaps.
• Define the architecture for secure, governed distribution of developer tooling through Package Manager, Autodeck and Developer Software Distribution processes.
• Ensure designs support application allow-listing, least privilege, approved elevation, trusted repositories, software provenance, auditability and policy compliance.
• Lead technical option assessments and proof-of-concept designs, documenting trade-offs across functionality, security, performance, operability, cost and implementation risk.
• Produce and maintain architecture artefacts, including solution overviews, HLDs, LLD guidance, integration diagrams, data flows, decision records, control mappings and transition designs.
• Present designs to architecture and security governance forums, address review findings and secure the required approvals.
• Provide technical direction to desktop engineers, software developers, business analysts and delivery partners throughout build, test, pilot and production implementation.
• Identify architectural dependencies, constraints, risks and technical debt, and recommend proportionate remediation actions.
• Design support, monitoring, ownership, recovery and knowledge-transfer requirements to enable a controlled transition into BAU.
Required Experience and Skills
• Proven experience as a Solution Architect delivering complex enterprise workplace, endpoint, infrastructure or developer-platform solutions.
• Strong architecture knowledge across Windows 11, macOS, Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Microsoft Defender and endpoint privilege management.
• Experience designing software packaging, application distribution, trusted repository or package-management solutions across Windows and macOS.
• Understanding of developer workflows, SDLC tooling, source control, CI/CD, IDEs, build systems, containers and command-line development environments.
• Strong knowledge of identity and access management, least privilege, application control, certificate management, proxies and endpoint security architecture.
• Experience producing HLDs, integration designs, security designs, architecture decisions and non-functional requirements.
• Ability to evaluate technology options and explain benefits, constraints, risks and trade-offs to both engineering and executive audiences.
• Demonstrable experience working within architecture governance, risk, audit and security approval processes in a regulated enterprise.
• Strong stakeholder-management, facilitation, problem-solving and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.
Desirable Experience
• Previous experience as a senior software developer, technical lead or similar hands-on engineering role.
• Broad understanding of software architecture, application integration, APIs, cloud platforms and modern development practices.
• Experience progressing from detailed solution design and development into solution architecture and technical leadership.
• Familiarity with agile delivery, DevOps practices, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
• Relevant architecture, cloud or technology certifications are advantageous but not essential.
