Senior Software Engineer (Infrastructure & Release) | Physical AI / Robotics | Munich
€80,000 - €120,000 (+equity)
I’m exclusively representing an early-stage, deep-tech Physical AI company based in Munich that is building technology at the intersection of AI, robotics and industrial automation.
The company is developing a new approach to how intelligent machines learn from the physical world - using real-world multimodal data captured from industrial environments to improve how AI systems understand, assist and ultimately automate complex manufacturing processes.
Backed by a leading Munich-based deep-tech VC and having recently secured multi-million-dollar seed funding, the company is now moving from successful industrial pilots into the next phase of product development, industrialisation and commercialisation.
They are looking to add a Senior Software Engineer (Infrastructure & Release) to their small, highly technical team.
The Role
- Own everything between a merged pull request and verified software running at a customer site — CI/CD, release engineering, infrastructure-as-code, and the fleet of GPU edge machines the system runs on inside factories
- Make the current software version at any given production station answerable in a single query, and provable against what passed acceptance testing
- Make releases predictable: every edge deployment a versioned, reproducible release supporting controlled rollout, rollback, and a complete version inventory across customer sites
- Consolidate infrastructure-as-code into reusable modules so a new customer site can be stood up in days
- Build visibility and resilience into the fleet — metrics, dashboards and alerting that surface a failure before the customer does, backup and disaster recovery with regularly tested restores, and secure remote access implemented properly
- Make privacy and security enforceable in the architecture: anonymisation that cannot be bypassed, plus device identity and authentication for real-time streaming connections from the shop floor to the backend
- Build a replay harness alongside the Lead Software Engineer, turning recorded production streams into regression tests for the full pipeline
- Work daily with the Lead Software Engineer and the CTO, with architecture decisions made in the open and a twelve-month mandate rather than a fixed checklist
The Candidate
- CI/CD ownership, including self-hosted or on-premise environments
- Serious experience with a large-scale build system (e.g. Bazel, Buck) and the appetite to go deep
- Infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform) on a major cloud provider
- Deep Docker and Linux, including GPU workloads
- Production observability — metrics, logging, alerting — with the backup and restore discipline to go with it
- Secrets management done properly
- Treats security and privacy as design constraints rather than a later hardening phase
- Holds the line on versioning and reproducibility under deadline pressure, including from the CTO
- Eliminates toil permanently rather than working around it, and picks up unfamiliar stacks quickly
Nice to have
- Edge or on-premise fleet experience
- Streaming media pipelines (e.g. WebRTC) and their security
- Device identity / zero-trust architectures
- Supply-chain security (SBOMs, dependency automation)
- Release engineering at a hardware or embedded company
Ability to be on-site in Munich 4 days / week required.
