We are a global brand dedicated to creating Smart, Helpful, and Bold baby gear since 2007. We are seeking a Patent Counsel (m/f/d) to join our legal team based in Munich. This role will be responsible for developing and executing our patent strategy to support our businesses in Europe.
What you'll do
- Support the development and management of the company’s patent portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and innovation strategies.
- Conduct technical analysis of products and technologies, and prepare detailed patent claim charts and infringement analyses.
- Assist in the design and implementation of patent enforcement strategies across Europe, while coordinating with global IP and litigation teams.
- Monitor competitor patent activities and industry trends to identify opportunities and risks.
- Coordinate with external patent counsel on oppositions, invalidity actions, enforcement matters, and other patent-related disputes.
- Provide support for Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) studies, patentability assessments, and IP risk evaluations from a European patent law perspective.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of full time experience in patent practice, either in a law firm, patent attorney firm, or an in-house IP department.
- Experience with patent analysis, claim chart preparation, FTO assessments, and IP due diligence.
- Exposure to patent disputes, oppositions, enforcement programs, or litigation support is highly desirable.
- Qualified European Patent Attorney or German Patent Attorney.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving capabilities with the ability to understand complex engineering concepts.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills in an international and cross-functional environment.
- Ability to communicate complex technical and intellectual property concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive, commercially minded, and capable of supporting business-driven IP decision-making.
- English and German proficiency required. Proficiency in Chinese or other languages desirable.
