DSP Chemical Engineer

For an innovative start-up in the biotechnology sector, we are looking for a DSP Chemical Engineer (full-time).
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of downstream purification and refining strategies for microbial oils and lipids from laboratory development to pilot and manufacturing scale
- Design, optimize, and implement scalable downstream processing workflows and refining processes
- Develop extraction, purification, and product recovery protocols tailored to specific product applications
- Transfer processes from laboratory to pilot and industrial environments and support scale-up activities
- Troubleshoot process challenges and drive continuous improvements in process robustness, efficiency, and sustainability
- Select and evaluate suitable process equipment, refining technologies, and process aids
- Generate and assess experimental data to support process development and decision-making
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across fermentation, analytics, and product development
Profile
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
- Strong chemical engineering mindset with the ability to independently design, develop, and optimize downstream processes
- Sound experience in downstream processing, process development, purification, refining, and scale-up of biotechnological products
- Expertise in the purification of microbial products, including oils, lipids, proteins, polysaccharides, or small molecules
- Knowledge of refining processes such as degumming, neutralization, bleaching, and deodorization, as well as separation technologies including extraction, filtration, centrifugation, and drying
- Experience applying Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical process optimization approaches
- Ability to translate laboratory results into scalable, robust, and reproducible pilot or manufacturing processes
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with microbial oils, lipids, or fermentation-derived products is advantageous but not required
